INVESTMENTS LIMITED FAMILY AND FRIENDS, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Did you know that September is Hunger Awareness Month?

Tonight, one in seven children will go to bed hungry, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can do something about it. Hunger does not just affect children; it affects people of all ages. It does not just affect people in third world countries; it affects people everywhere, including right here in Palm Beach County and Broward County. Hunger and malnutrition can have devastating and lifelong effects. To put things in perspective, and gain some understanding of the struggles vulnerable families in our communities face each day, did you know that people who are eligible to participate in the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) run by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) are allotted an average of only $4.50 per day? This $4.50 is for ALL meals per day. Can you imagine feeding yourself on $4.50 a day? Didn’t think so.

We want the community to know that we need their help in raising awareness of the critical issue of hunger. Every single person can make a difference in the life of a hungry child, a family who doesn’t have enough to eat and a senior citizen who has to choose between medicine and food. Now is the time for our community and leaders to take bold action.

The Feed My Community coalition, which is comprised of over 25 schools, businesses, civic organizations and various church congregations, is holding a September Food Drive and striving to make it the largest food collection drive in the history of South Palm Beach County.

What do they need? Non-perishable items such as canned pasta meals, canned tomato sauce, canned meat, canned tuna, peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soup, dry rice, and dry beans. Want to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable community members and make your money stretch farther at the same time? One way to do it is to take advantage of the BOGO (Buy One Get One FREE) offers at your local supermarket. Just as an example, between now and September 11th, you can go to Publix and take advantage of BOGO offers on items such as Del Monte canned tomatoes, Green Giant canned vegetables, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese dinners, Mueller’s pasta, Pasta Roni, Quaker Instant Oatmeal and more. Every week they have a new batch of BOGO offers, which is great because this food drive is going to last through the month of September.

Food items donated to the Feed My Community drive will be shared by organizations such as The Palm Beach County Food Bank, Boca Helping Hands, the Jacobson Family Food Pantry and CROS Ministries.
